John has over 20 years' experience in Community Safety and in public service. As a skilled community-focused safety professional with professional experience across law enforcement, criminal justice, project and programme management areas in the voluntary, public, and private industries, With a blend of diverse industry experience combined with practical team leadership and mentorship skills, tangible accomplishments through project management abilities, clear and decisive leadership in creating and implementing strategic plans and communications.
I currently work for Mid Suffolk District Council as the Community Safety Manager. I have been with Mid Suffolk District Council for four years, and have previously worked for the Winston-Salem Police Department, Colchester Borough Council, Suffolk Youth Offending Service, HMPS and managed a private Children’s Home. My experience with the criminal justice system which includes law enforcement, crime prevention, teaching/training, court advisor, probation, custody, resettlement and community safety. I have experience in community development, corporate policy, project management (Prince2 Practitioner Qualified) and development of intervention programmes.
I presently Chair the Western Suffolk Community Safety Partnership Working Group and Chair the Mid Suffolk Domestic Abuse Forum. I am Chair of the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts Management Board.
I consider there is still a lot to be done in the field of Community Safety, new challenges and pressures are constantly being put on Community Safety Partnerships. It is our task to work with Partnerships and ensure that good practice is transparent and shared both regionally and nationally. Community Safety requires a increased professional approach which includes specific qualifications and career paths and a recognised accrediting body.
